From wacky Tokyo to majestic Mount Fuji to the cultural hubs of Osaka and Kyoto, a trip to Japan is all your dreams come true. You can stay in breathtakingly stylish ryokan inns or in high-end luxury hotels, and treat yourself to the finest culinary and cultural experiences the country has to offer.
For jetsetters like me, packing for a vacation is always a thrilling experience. My collection of travel essentials is constantly evolving and I’m super excited to try out my new FLOATTI carry-on that was recently sent to me. Where once comfort and practicality were the only two basic requirements for travel gear, the downpour of perfect captures and pro shots from tourist destinations have taken the vacation wardrobe game up a notch.
Avoid looking like a Tourist
I can’t stress it enough. It is definitely time to do away with the typical jeans, backpack, and sweatshirt. You don’t need to have a camera around your neck and a backpack in your vacation shots, do you? Travelling across the globe in chic style will definitely bring more buzz to your vacation diaries.
The Land of the Rising Sun
I know I have been talking about going to Japan since forever and, being the resident planner, my inbox is inundated with requests for sharing tips on traveling in style. The lovely island of Japan is tourist heaven and a highly rewarding destination. To ensure my trip to Japan is a luxuriously blissful vacation, I have carefully listed my essentials for this trip to the land of the rising sun.
Style Tip Sheet for Travel to Japan
So without further ado, here’s my list of essentials for my trip to Japan this week. I must mention that skincare was one of my main concerns and of course, given the changing weather, I didn’t forget to pack cashmere in my FLOATTI. I have started to focus on little luxuries that make flying and travelling refined.
1. Hassle Free Luggage
Here’s a confession, if there is one piece of luggage that has forever won my approval, it is FLOATTI. With a perfect maneuvering system and a laptop valet that slides into the easily accessible front pocket, this is the ultimate luggage for a globetrotter. FLOATTI draws inspiration from the finest traditions of luggage craftsmanship to create lifetime travel companions that are the ultimate union of form and function. The FLOATTI carry-on has several design details that I adore; premium saffiano leather trim, a handle with a hook to carry all your duty free shopping, as well as a handy strap that will hold your handbag in place. You’ll see more of the Floatti in my stories as I travel and I’ve incorporated it into most of the shots in this post.
2. Skincare with J-Beauty
I have already released a post on Shiseido men’s skincare essentials and my love for Japanese beauty products is nothing new. Given that I am traveling to Japan, it was only natural that I slipped in the gel mask by Adsorb Beauty for hydration into my FLOATTI carry-on. This is an amazing product that immediately replenishes lost moisture and is packed with Natural AntiBody Technology that make your skin more youthful and plump while diminishing signs of aging. I also threw in their moisturizer that hydrates wonderfully.
3. A Hollywood Smile
No destination picture is complete without dazzling smile. Marvis toothpaste will give you that million dollar smile that will add more fun and energy to your vacation photographs. I have been a long time fan of Marvis, which is a designer toothpaste brand with kitchy flavours and cheeky advertising. For this trip, I will be packing a few of my favourite flavours in my FLOATTI.
4. Bundle up in Warmth
I have been obsessing over my Save the Duck jacket since forever and with good reason; it is stylish, warm, eco-friendly, and cruelty free. Brands such as Save the Duck who value social and environmental responsibility are very important to me. The added bonus of my Save the Duck jacket is that it is light weight and very easy to pack and carry around on a trip. I also appreciate the style as it is something I can dress up or down.
5. Walk the Walk
Since vacation essentially implies a lot of traveling and endless hours of wandering around in a foreign land, it is essential to have a comfy pair of shoes. Sneakers are just not chic enough when paired with dressier outfits. Given the cold season, I decided to opt for ECCO Mens Exostrike Hydromax to ensure comfort without compromising on style. The shoe design is agile and ensures you can walk in your own style. The water resistant fabric is the cherry on top.
6. Catch up on the Zzz’s
When you are traveling half way across the globe, jet lag and sleep deprivation become a major concern. Infused with a tinge of British lavender, the luxury Otis Batterbee sleep mask will lull you to sleep so that you can catch up on that beauty rest. The designs are distinctly British with traditional men’s tailored fabrics such as herringbone or classic stripes.
7. Cashmere…. and then Some!
Cashmere is an integral part of luxurious winters and this item is certainly a splurge that I have had my eye on for a while now. Designed with the finest Mongolian cashmere, Felix & Co.’s cashmere travel set comes with a blanket, socks, and an eye mask in a matching cashmere carry case. I can’t wait to wrap the soft cashmere blanket around me on my long flight to Japan. This is a travel essential that I will cherish flight after flight.
8. Make it Yours
I’ll be honest, nothing excites me more than a monogrammed and personalized item in my travel kit. This is exactly why a set of customized pyjamas from Masini Sleepwear instantly won me over. With a strong focus on style, comfort and functionality, Masini Sleepwear incorporates luxurious fabrics with flattering and modern silhouettes. The hand selected prints are my favourite part about this sleepwear. Stay tuned this sleepwear to make a debut on my instagram feed.
9. Throw some Shade
Even a winter trip isn’t complete without a stylish pair of shades. I was recently gifted these Hugo Boss shades from Safilo Canada and I can’t wait to wear them on sunny days. Sunglasses are great to travel with so that you protect your eyes from the harsh sunrays and they add more character to your look.
10. Instant Click and Snap
For insta-worthy instant images, invest in an Instax® SQUARE SQ20 by FujiFilm and immortalize your beautiful travel moments forever. I’ve been hooked on Instax products by Fuji Film ever since they sent over the SP-3 Share Printer. This new hybrid Instax SQUARE SQ20 camera lets you capture those ‘once in a lifetime’ memories and moments beautifully, in a stylish square format. Because it’s a hybrid, you get the best of both worlds – the control and composition of a digital camera, with the enjoyment and tangible fun of a real photo. I personally love to provide my tour guides with an instant photograph along with a tip after a tour. The possibilities are endless.
