While many parts of the world are starting to get back to normal, Canada is remaining conservative when it comes to lifting travel restrictions. As such, I’ve been continuing my quest to find as many great “staycation” spots as I can in the area—after all, no matter where you live, you likely don’t need to stray too far from home to find a relaxing escape from everyday life.
I recently indulged in a perfect stay at the Delta Hotels by Marriott in my hometown, Kamloops, a beautiful little city tucked away between hiking trails, wineries, and other great sights. The hotel itself has a sleek facade and entryway, and inside truly offers anything one would need for a quaint weekend away or even an extended business trip.
If you visit the Delta Kamloops for a summer weekend getaway like I did, you’ll likely find yourself spending most of your time at their beautiful rooftop pool and jacuzzi. You may be on a rooftop in the middle of a city, but it really feels like a mini oasis. The pool area has plenty of seating to lounge with friends, read a book, or even take a midday nap after a refreshing dip in the pool.
PRO TIP: Currently, due to COVID restrictions, you must book your pool time in advance.
Regardless of your reason for staying at Delta Kamloops, you’ll likely find yourself stopping at Cordo Resto + Bar—an amazing bar and restaurant located right within the hotel—likely more than once. They are conveniently open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—as well as brunch on Saturdays and Sundays—offering guests grab and go options, dine-in (both indoor and outdoor), takeout, and delivery. The daily breakfast offering is new, so I had to be sure to check it out. I loved that they have both light and traditional options on the menu, from yogurt parfaits and oatmeal to loaded omelette and banana french toast. The lunch and dinner menus are both quite extensive as well, with so many delicious salads, sandwiches, burgers, and chef’s specialties to choose from.
PRO TIP: I frequent Cordo at Delta Kamloops a lot and I would totally recommend the Pork Belly starter and if you are looking for an indulgent brunch, the blueberry & lemon pancakes are an absolute dream.
Delta Kamloops really makes it so that you do not have to leave the hotel during your stay. This is especially convenient for Delta’s “streamliners”—folks who may be traveling for business or personal reasons but prioritize productivity and efficiency when looking for a place to stay. I appreciated their attention to business travel when it came time to get some work done back in my room. I was able to escape for a little while into my own quiet and calming area in the room where there was a perfect desk and work station area. It was great to be able to quickly send a few emails whenever I needed to, or have a quick bite while getting some writing done.
While the beautiful pool, delicious food, and convenient space were all great aspects of this stay, I think what my family and I enjoyed most about the Delta Kamloops was that it was dog-friendly. It’s not often that we get to travel with our furry loved ones, so it was nice to be able to bring Huxley along for the ride this time. He is certainly a fan!
