Checking In: My Stylish Weekend at Civic Hotel, Autograph Collection in Surrey, BC
Your insider look at one of the best hotels in Surrey, BC, where design, location, and service come together seamlessly.
First Impressions: Effortless Arrival in Surrey’s City Centre
Growing up, Surrey was mostly about visiting family. It was familiar, but not exactly a destination. So when I booked a weekend at Civic Hotel, Autograph Collection, it felt like stepping into a completely new version of a city I thought I already knew.

This stay gave me a whole new lens. I discovered design-forward spaces, live music, and a food scene that is not just growing, but thriving. Civic is nestled in Surrey’s vibrant city centre in British Columbia and is the tallest tower south of the Fraser. But more than that, it feels like the kind of stay where small details actually matter. And from check-in to check-out, that feeling held true.
Arriving at Civic, the energy felt immediately different in the best way. The lobby was alive with movement and light. Prado Café, located right in the lobby, added to the come-and-go social energy. Guests grabbing coffee, meeting friends, or settling in with tea gave the space an inviting rhythm. It had energy without the chaos. I checked in quickly, dropped my bags, and let the weekend unfold.

My Room: Calm, Bright, and Thoughtfully Designed
The room was everything I wanted. It was bright, spacious, and wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides. It offered sweeping views of Surrey’s growing skyline. Pops of bright blue added contrast to the soft, neutral palette. It felt calm, considered, and quietly luxurious. I had my tea by the window with a slow morning playlist and let the light pour in.
Each floor at Civic is themed after a region in British Columbia. I stayed on the Kootenays floor, and my room featured Nelson. From the mural by the elevator to the feature wall in the room, the storytelling was subtle but rich. It made every floor feel like a mini discovery.

Service That Gets It
One of my favourite parts of the stay was the ability to text the front desk. No picking up the phone and no waiting on hold, I was able to simply send a quick message and it was done. I asked for luggage storage and and they showed up quickly. It was efficient, modern, and refreshingly chill.
Texting wasn’t just about convenience, it was also about how personal and human the service felt. Every interaction was warm and low-pressure. It was the kind of hospitality that feels effortless because it comes from people who genuinely care. From check-in to housekeeping to room service, I felt taken care of without being hovered over. This is a rare balance to strike, and the Civic nails it.

Brunch in Bed? Say Less
I ordered room service, which is handled by Dominion Bar + Kitchen. Starting the morning with chicken and waffles and a mimosa delivered on a perfectly plated tray was iconic. The food was hot, the portions generous, and yes, I stayed in the robe longer than I planned. It was so worth it.
Let’s talk about the full experience. The tray came in like a main character; crisp linens, gleaming glassware, and everything arranged just right. It wasn’t just breakfast, it was an entire experience. I set it up by the window, let the natural light hit, and gave myself permission to linger. This is the kind of luxury that does not scream, it quietly delivers. Including Dominion in the room service experience added to the charm. It’s not every day you get restaurant-quality brunch without leaving bed.

From Lounge to Plaza: Hear It Live Weekend at Civic
Right outside the hotel, the Hear It Live festival transformed Civic Plaza into a full-on celebration. In the evening, I stepped into Dominion Bar + Kitchen and found myself in the middle of a live performance. A singer and a musician paired perfectly with the relaxed lounge vibe. It wasn’t loud or overproduced, simply an intimate moment that was easy to settle into. Mojito in hand, I found a cozy seat and let the atmosphere take over.

After my lounge moment at Dominion, I wandered out to catch the main stage action. The crowd was full, but the energy stayed relaxed with just the right mix of buzz and breathing room.
I caught Chani Nattan performing Best Friend. Yes, that Best Friend; the desi song that’s currently trending and basically the soundtrack of the moment. Sarbjit Cheema closed the night with Rangla Punjab, delivering full 90s throwback magic.
After slow mornings came lively nights. There was dancing, cheering, and that collective city energy that does not come around often. When it all wrapped up, I was back in my room in minutes. No lines or chaos, solely pure convenience.
